CSI and GTI have teamed up to provide a unique set of modeling capabilities previously unavailable to the simulation engineer. GT-SUITE and CONVERGE™ CFD have been coupled on a number of levels to provide advanced 1D/3D coupling capability. Standard coupling is available for modeling pure 1D system models in GT-SUITE with 3D models in CONVERGE™ CFD, as has been done for many years. Beyond that, GT-SUITE includes an embedded version of CONVERGE™ Lite which allows for coarse 3D models to be simulated within a 1D simulation, and the simulation takes place purely in the 1D (GT-SUITE) environment. This is included as a standard capability within GT-SUITE, and is included at no charge to the customer.

Finally, CSI and GTI have developed the capability to simulate a 1D engine system simulation which includes one or more 3D cylinder models, solved with CONVERGE™ CFD, in a truly integrated manner. In this scenario, the user may simulate the physics (combustion, turbulence, heat transfer, etc.) of one or more cylinders of their GT-POWER model using CONVERGE™ CFD, and the remaining, purely 1D cylinders, will receive the 3D results on a timestep by timestep level. These developments mark a new paradigm in terms of fidelity and efficiency of 1D/3D coupling.
