How CFD is helping auto manufacturers achieve optimum curing

Predicting the heat transfer characteristics for the Body in White (BiW) while traversing the paint bake oven is very important in order to achieve optimum curing. This application can be very challenging for commercial CFD codes. The difficulties lie within meshing issues associated with very complicated moving geometry.  To simplify this approach, some researchers have found it helpful to simulate a series of steady state simulations with the BiW at various locations in the oven. However, there are accuracy issues associated with this approach and a fully transient simulation would be much preferable. To simulate the paint bake oven process in a transient fashion, the geometry and mesh related issues must be addressed.
